EVOLUTION OF COLOR PRINTING

The act of recreating text and art through printing dates back older than 3000BC, from the cave paintings of prehistoric Europe through writing on parchment in Ancient Greece. The first successful color printing project occurred more than 40 years ago. Color printing has never been more advanced thanks to developments in printer technology.

What Is Color Printing

Reproducing content in color on a printed page is called color printing. The four color process is used to produce the vast range of colors that can be seen on a color printed piece of art. The item being printed is divided into 3 colors—Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow—and then a fourth color—Black—is added during the four-color process.

Since the first successful color print job was done in 1977, color printing has made significant advancements. The development of computer technology during the 20th century made contemporary electronic printing more widely available.

Color printing has developed hugely over time thanks to the invention of the movable type press in the 16th century.

  • The movable-type press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg in 1550
  • The printing process was advanced by the development of lithography and the mechanization of the print press during the industrial revolution, which made it much simpler to transfer pictures.
  • Modern printing was transformed by advances in photography and photomechanical printing plates throughout the 19th century.
  • In 1976, Mitsushita Corporation introduced color printing and color monitors simultaneously.
  • Thanks to development, the first two and three color printing methods were created in 1910, and four color printing is being utilized today.
  • In the 20th century, consumers had an abundance of options thanks to significant developments like the creation of the first commercial photocopier in 1958 and the introduction of the first laser printer in the world in 1969.
  • Inkjet, laser, and dot matrix printers became available to customers in the 1980s.
  • By the late 1980s, customers had easier access to, and a friendlier user experience with, color printers.
  • Color printers have evolved into the complex technological marvels we know and love today, delivering the greatest degree of color print quality along with unmatched finish and quality.
